LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Lake Nakuru National Park is Kenya’s most popular National Park located on Lake Nakuru which is one of the Rift Valley soda lakes at an elevation of 1,754 m above sea level lying to the south of Nakuru Town and in the Rift Valley of Kenya. Its main amazing feature is the large shallow lake backing countless birdlife, including thousands of Pelicans and variable flocks of Flamingos.
The park is also a sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. It is also endowed with zebra, hippo, olive baboon, vervet and colobus monkeys, waterbuck and hyena. Other big safari wildlife to be on the lookout for include lion, cheetah, leopard, and buffalo.
The park is well fenced to protect the rhino and giraffe, so it can’t support elephants – the only large mammal you won’t find here.
Traversing through the park’s dense acacia forest you’ll likely come upon herds of impala and waterbuck. You will also see large pythons hanging from the trees in the park’s woodlands which is the infamous African rock python that’s capable of swallowing animal’s whole.
The number of flamingos on the lake varies with water and food conditions and the best vantage point is from Baboon Cliff.
